Project - Beijing Walks
This project was born in Chaoyang neighborhood in Beijing, where I lived for two of the three years I spent in the Chinese capital. What captivates me about these real, staged front yards is how all their ordinary objects together create a baroque composition which engages you as you observe every detail.
This project is a series of Beijing large-scale images from their streets, printed in scale 1 to 1 and hung in a different country. The work tries to question through an intrusion in an alien environment, the similarities, and cultural differences, sometimes not as far as a priori could be posted. Finally, these images are part of a registration process, where they begin to take meaning once emplaced and where the local lol is added as a layer generating a visual and cultural integration.
